Persistent low temperatures

Looking through the latest temperature observations recorded on Cairngorm summit, it tells a tale of a cold winter so far on the Scottish high tops.

Since the beginning of December, there have been only very brief periods where values up at 1200m on the plateau have nudged above freezing point, and during January, just one brief glimmer around the 10th January. Otherwise it has been deep freeze all the way since around Christmas, with the most persistent very low temperatures occurring just this past weekend.

On Saturday, the temperature on Cairngorm never rose above -7.7C, and in 48 hours over the weekend, the highest was only -6.8C. It has risen to a balmy -4C today (Monday)!
